This is for the reader who asked in private, where I stay in Paris. I think like NYC, Paris forces a choice- downtown/uptown, Left Bank/Right.
I’m a downtown-Left Bank sort of girl. I need to stay some place boutique-like, intimate in scale, and where Bruno is also very welcomed.
Hotel Esprit St Germain is my preferred Paris Bolthole. The last few times, I’ve even been kindly upgraded. Its location right in the heart of the 6th works for me. Everything I like and need, is within walking distance.
The little street it sits on is easy to site because of the Church of Saint Sulpice The neighbourhood has a local flavour that hasn’t quite yet been tarnished.
The hotel describes itself as a 5-star experience. I’m not sure if I would agree fully in terms of decor.
But service is excellent, the rooms and shared spaces comfortably furnished, amenities provided (bedroom slippers, adaptor, stationary, toiletries) are well-thought through. Everything in the mini bar, as well as in the lounge, is offered without charge.
Badoit water (no less) for Bruno, champagne and nibbles for me.
At night, there is turn down service, and a dainty box of chocolates placed by our pillows.
We always enjoy staying here.
