Cinq Etoiles- 5 Stars

Once upon a time, the religious fathers fled Rome, settled and re-asserted papal power from Avignon.

Behind this insane facade, right next to the Palace, is the hotel we stayed in- La Mirande.

As it was off-peak season, we enjoyed a 34% discount on the regular room rate.  Via email, the staff assured me that theirs is a 5-star, dog-friendly establishment.

Your dog can eat with you in the restaurant, in the breakfast room, at the bar.

He can go everywhere with you.

He can also visit our 19th century kitchen.

5 star- boutique hotel, yummilicious interiors, perfect location, and truly dog-friendly?

We couldn’t get there quickly enough!

La Mirande is beautiful.

The interiors have the sort of nonchalant elegance that allows one to feel at complete rest.  The public spaces for dining offer intimacy and comfort.

Our room was soothing- the size of a London/New York/Tokyo pied a terre.  We had unblocked views of the Palais des Popes.

The view is a bit of a shock to the system, in a surreal sort of way.  At night, when the building is lit up,  the view can feel a little ghostly.  These lovely toile curtains proved useful then.

Service was impeccable, sincerely wanting to please.

We were made to feel very welcomed.  It was a 5-star experience in every way, especially for Bruno.

My only regret?

We should have spent a little longer there.
